Analysis of Positive and Negative Rituals within Interpersonal Communication INTRODUCTION The way an individual experiences ritual relates to how they experience character. Individuals experience character, both in themselves and others, based on how they engage in a situation. That is, whether they comply or neglect ritual traditions. Ritual â€Å"refers to an act through which an individual portrays his respect and regard for some object of ultimate value to that object of ultimate value or to its stand-in† (Anton, 2010). In a sense, ritual could be considered the ways in which individuals give value and meaning to an experience. Since ritual deals with the appropriate means for handling sacred entities (Anton, 2010), an individual can experience different aspects based on how they engage. Due to this, the key issue is that of propriety, which is a state of conformity to set behavior or morals. If an individual complies with the ritual, they experience favorable aspects; on the other hand, an individual experiences unfavorable or negative aspects when the y neglect ritual elements. There are many aspects of our daily lives in which we are constantly engaging in forms of positive ritual. When it comes to positive rituals, they are referred to as, â€Å"the many little offerings of various kinds through which we give and receive esteem and veneration† (Anton, 2010).
